Rafting is an indipendent sport under the Brazilian Canoeing Federation.
The most successful non-Olympic modality of CBCa will have its own representative national entity starting 2017.

Although it is a sport with a recent history in Brazil in the 80's, the Brazilian Rafting is currently one of the most respected in the world achievements in the male (four times world Open Champion) and female (three times World Under 23) categories, besides having host country of major events in the country such as the 2014 World Cup and the Pan-American 2010, both held in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná.

Today, reference in the world scenario, Brazilian rafting was only able to become such a power in the sport thanks to the partnership started with the Brazilian Canoeing Federation (CBCa) in the late 90's. "It was a partnership that worked very well for many years and the results conquered and the events held here in Brazil show this. However, the rafting has grown and now it is time for him to follow his own path and continue his growth independent of Olympic Canoeing, "says João Tomasini Schwertner, president of CBCa.

Conversations started in 2017 already showed the way for the emancipation of Rafting from the framework of modalities of CBCa and in that same year (2017) was founded the Brazilian Rafting Association (ABR) with Evandro Marcelo Tasca as its first president of the national entity. At the beginning of this year 2018, William Thomaz will assume the entity as President.

"The main goal of the ABR (Brazilian Rafting Association) foundation was to gain autonomy in the actions and management of the modality, mainly in terms of fundraising, technical organization, professional training and sports initiation.

We are already formatting several projects that will certainly bring a lot of returns and benefits to the Brazilian teams, clubs, technicians, but mainly improve the conditions of our athletes, the main reason for all this work.

We are very grateful to the partnership with the CBCa but we understand that, as President Tomasini said, the rafting has grown and we have total conditions to develop several projects with our sports community aiming the development, growth and visibility of the modality. “

Rafting is the third most affiliated sport in the CBCa, with 543 registered athletes, behind only Cano Velocidad (1,269) and Canoal Slalom (730), both Olympic modalities.
